Wildfire Preparedness – Maryland Department of Natural Resources

Many people are not aware that wildfires are
a threat to homes in our area. Each year in Maryland, wildfires burn up to
4,000 acres of forest and grassland, typically in the spring and fall. However, woodland homeowners can protect their
family and property by reducing the risk of a wildfire. Some simple things a homeowner can do are: – Rake leaves away from the house and out
from under the deck – Remove yard debris – Stack firewood away from the house – Prune dead limbs from landscape plants – Remove highly flammable plants, such as evergreens, that are near buildings – Include outbuildings in your wildfire preparations, and
– Maintain a green, mowed lawn For more information on wildfire safety, go

Maryland page.
