in 2003 the forest management Bureau initiated a two year nationwide forest inventory in the Philippines to assess the country's forestry resources experts from FAO provided technical assistance and training in forest inventory while the staff of the forest management Bureau coordinated and implemented the whole image now 10 years later the forest management Bureau is preparing to follow up the National Assessment and to remeasure the permanent fuel plots that were established in 2003 2004 the technical unit of the Philippines national forest inventory is not only responsible for leading and coordinating inventory operations they're also training all the staff in field data collection and good practices in the field to train all the forest inventory teams the technical unit has arranged a one-week training workshop in Mindanao a few days before all the inventory teams arrived experts from the technical unit go out into the field to prepare training sites for the field inventory to assist them they have one of the inventory team stationed in Mindanao their first task is to select areas where the inventory teams can experience a variety of fuel conditions so they learn how to tackle different situations they also make an inventory on the training parts to pre assess them and make sure they're suitable for training purposes the workshop starts with theoretical training in how to collect and record field data at last it's time to go out in the field and put theory into practice the trainees practiced the use of different measurement instruments and are guided on how to collect data on everything from tree species height and diameter to Deadwood land use and information on the use of forests on trees Filipinos are well known for their hospitality and the workshop participants were well looked up when the trainings over all the teams return to their regions to start remeasuring for the second phase of the Philippines national forests in Russia
