Here’s a new bed that was put in a lawn
area. And the first thing we did was we forked it up and turned all the grass over, removed
the grass, and we’re watering it to encourage weed growth and small trees. At the end of
this season we’ll come back in and till it and amend it with peat moss, and either
cow manure or some type of compost.
By letting the weeds grow up and encouraging
growth right here, then what we’re doing is finding out what kind of problems we might
have in the future with it. And by doing it this way, the newly turned soil has a chance
to mellow a little bit, it gets rainfall- we’re watering it to encourage growth. And
what this will allow is once you begin to plant it, you do not have the type of weed
problems that you would have if you were in a hurry with it.
