I’m Shane Burgess, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Welcome to the U of A. ♫ So, coming to the University of Arizona, you’re coming to one of the world’s elite universities. We are a Tier 1 research university, that means everything you learn, you’re going to be taught by people who are changing the world today. They are doing cutting edge research today, and they’re changing the world, and you’ll be directly interacting with them one-on-one. For example, we may have students in New York, working in areas of high fashion. We have students who are visiting and working with faculty on projects that are about making new forms of energy. We have a number of our students in nutrition and dietetics, for example, who spend very much time in hospitals or other clinical settings. And so, again, it comes back to our university. It turns out, that the students that we graduate, touch more than half of our entire economy. Pretty much the whole world is open to you. Because we have so many diverse programs, we have so many diverse ways of learning and teaching, and experiencing the world. But one thing we are absolutely connected to is making sure our students are connected to the world while they’re here at college. And so, are always focusing on what other people might call internship programs, that’s just part of our college. Being connected to organizations, industries, entities, businesses, That’s just part of what we do. That’s just part of our DNA. What we want to make sure you do is that you understand in the classroom that what’s being taught in
the classroom actually has relevance to the real world. It really helps out faculty, to hear back from you, what you’ve heard and what you’ve been experiencing. So, it really is an interactive process between you as a student and our faculty. If you’re passionate about something, you’re going to be successful. And there is going to be an opportunity out there for you. The college is focused on looking outward towards opportunities in the real world. Not looking inward, to put you in a box
and make you into a degree that we decide is important for you. It’s really about, come to us with what you are passionate about, and we’ll help you find your career for your future. What is important to you? And where do we need to be going
to make sure when you get out, to make sure your degree isn’t valuable the day you got it, it’s actually more valuable every day you start working. I’m Shane Burgess, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Be a part of the U of A. ♫
